Volery Gallery is pleased to present Whispers of Play, a group exhibition bringing together three Japanese artists, Nana Saiaku, Yukari Nishi, and Koichi Yairi, whose distinct visual languages converge in a poetic exploration of memory, emotion, and the quiet theatre of everyday life.
Across painting and mixed media, the artists weave delicate tensions between restraint and spontaneity, innocence and introspection. Saiaku’s layered wood panels radiate tactile intensity, revealing tender emotional undercurrents behind playful surfaces. Nishi’s fluid gestures in oil and acrylic capture fleeting states of contemplation, her chromatic harmonies evoking both fragility and grace. Yairi, through expressive pastel and acrylic compositions, investigates rhythm and psychological landscape, balancing control with impulsive mark making.
Together, their works form an intimate dialogue on vulnerability, resilience, and the subtle joy found in impermanence. Whispers of Play situates these rising Japanese voices within Volery Gallery’s ongoing commitment to showcasing the New Contemporary Wave in dialogue with global currents of abstraction and figuration.
Exhibition Dates:
November 20 - December 16, 2025
