Volery Gallery is pleased to present Blue Error, the first solo exhibition in the Middle East by French multidisciplinary artist Julien Boudet. Known for his conceptual investigations into the aesthetics of luxury, consumerism, and counterfeit culture, Boudet brings to Dubai a new body of work that examines the rupture between contemporary aspiration and systemic collapse.
Blue Error takes its title from the infamous blue screen of death, a universal symbol of technological failure. In this series, Boudet uses that metaphor as a lens to reflect on a broader cultural breakdown. Through photography, sculptural assemblage, and recontextualized objects, the artist captures a world frozen mid-crash. Luxury vehicles appear dismantled, fashion items are rendered obsolete, and status symbols are reframed as digital-era relics—distorted, degraded, or displaced. These compositions echo the moment when a system stops responding, holding up a mirror to a society grappling with overconsumption, climate anxiety, and ideological fatigue.
The works on view present a stark meditation on value and illusion, exploring how desire continues to persist even as its symbols fracture. Boudet does not offer resolution, but instead reveals the error code beneath the surface of late capitalist aesthetics. The result is a body of work that feels both forensic and prophetic, confronting us with the reality that we may be operating inside a corrupted program.
With Blue Error, Julien Boudet continues his critical engagement with the visual codes of power, now extended to the regional context of the Gulf. This exhibition affirms Volery Gallery’s commitment to presenting bold, cross-cultural dialogues in contemporary art and marks a significant milestone in the artist’s international trajectory.
