Ticko Liu

Ticko Liu is a visual artist whose paintings explore the delicate structures and overlooked rhythms of the natural world. Drawing on close observations of plants, insects, birds and the traces of everyday life, Liu transforms fleeting sensations into intricate, dreamlike scenes that invite sustained contemplation.

Combining the language of oil painting with an Eastern mode of seeing, Liu moves between intimate detail and expansive perspectives. His works inhabit the threshold between reality and imagination, where familiar forms dissolve into layered ecosystems of colour, movement and memory. Through these densely constructed environments, he considers the subtle connections between personal experience and broader scales of time and space, making the act of looking a point of entry into the infinite.

Liu’s work has been exhibited internationally at institutions and venues including Kunstraum Kreuzberg/Bethanien in Berlin, Yuz Museum in Shanghai and Gallery Exit in Hong Kong. He received the Sovereign Art Foundation Student Prize in 2018 and was shortlisted for the Hong Kong Human Rights Art Prize in 2020 and the Sovereign Asian Art Prize in 2025. His work is held in the Yuz Foundation collection and in private collections across Europe, Asia and Australia.
