BIOGRAPHY

Influenced by her Scandinavian and Caribbean heritage, Tania Marmolejo explores gender and identity issues. Her paintings juxtapose the intimate and personal with the monumental, creating large-scale paintings of ambiguous female facial expressions.  

Marmolejo’s work has been featured in solo exhibitions, including As Far As Your Eyes Can See, KIAF Art Fair, Eligere Gallery, Seoul (2022); The Dream And The Voyage, CICA Vancouver (2022); elenovela Life, GR Gallery, New York (2022); Santas y Tígueras, Museo Cándido Bidó, Bonao, Dominican Republic (2020) and (In Between), Galleri Nord-Norge, Harstad, Norway (2018). Her work has also been featured in group exhibitions, such as You Me Me You, Nicodim Gallery, Los Angeles (2022); Summer Camp, GR Gallery, New York (2021); Vibraciones Conteporáneas, Lyle O Reitzel Contemporary Art, Dominican Republic (2021) and CONTEXT, Art Miami, Lyle O. Reitzel Gallery, Miami (2017) among others.

Marmolejo was selected to represent the Dominican Republic with her textile designs at the 4th and 6th Ibero-American Design Biennial, Central de Diseño in Matadero Madrid, 2014 and 2018.

Marmolejo is the illustrator of a children book series ‘Tales of the biosphere reserve’ on the fauna and flora of Hispaniola and the national parks in the Dominican Republic.

She studied Graphic Design and Illustration in Norway and returned to the Dominican Republic to study Fine Arts at the Altos de Chavón School of Design. In 1998 she received the Bluhdorn Scholarship, and received a degree in Fine Arts and Illustration from Parsons The New School for Design, New York in 2000.

Born in 1975, Santo Domingo, Marmolejo currently lives and works in New York.
