BIOGRAPHY

Maria Andrievskaya (b. 1993) is a London-based artist whose work reflects an intimate and meditative dialogue with nature. Her practice centers on sustained observation of the natural world—particularly plants and landscapes—and how their subtle, often overlooked details can mirror the emotional and psychological states of the human experience.

She approaches nature not as static or decorative, but as a sentient force—alive, energetic, and intertwined with our existence. Through her paintings, Maria seeks to honor this presence, portraying the land as an active character that offers comfort, reflection, and transformation. Light in her compositions often hovers between dawn and dusk, evoking timelessness and the sense of a world on the brink of change.

Informed by both classical painting techniques and the personal symbolism of her upbringing, Maria bridges the visual languages of tradition and memory. Her material exploration includes grinding rocks and soil from her native Cyprus into handmade oil pigments, embedding her works with physical and emotional traces of place. The resulting canvases pulse with vitality, suggesting that nature—and perhaps the painting itself—might continue to grow beyond the confines of the frame.

Maria’s practice poses questions about value, perception, and protection: what we choose to nurture, what we neglect, and how we might rediscover wonder in a fragile world. Through her poetic surfaces, she invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and reconnect with the intricate rhythms of the natural world.
