Supernatural·Algorithm - Zhou Song Solo Exhibition

In an era where technology intertwines with nature, and faith collides with reason, we stand at a critical juncture: nature is being re-coded by algorithms, faith is being redefined by technology, and humanity’s future trembles in the unknown. The exhibition Supernatural·Algorithm employs symbolic imagery—pencil trees, anthropomorphic trees, and twisted candles—to explore the complex relationships between nature, technology, and faith through visual and philosophical lenses, revealing their inherent contradictions and possibilities.

The "anthropomorphic tree" serves as a metaphor for nature’s alienation by technology. These trees retain natural forms while merging with human features, hinting at a future possibility: as algorithms silently infiltrate every corner of nature, can it preserve its primal purity? Or will it inevitably fuse with human civilization, becoming an entirely new entity? "Pencil trees", in contrast, symbolize nature’s primordial state. Their delicate lines and soft hues evoke tranquility and harmony. Yet pencils are not merely tools for depiction—they embody human wisdom. The graphite traces carry the memory of civilization, while their wooden bodies encapsulate the rings of knowledge. This juxtaposition creates not only visual tension but also philosophical inquiry: In a tech-dominated future, can nature remain an independent entity? Or will it be wholly transformed by algorithms into a "supernatural" existence?

"Twisted candles", another key element, symbolize light, hope, and faith. Yet under technological intervention, their distorted forms struggle to find new meaning. Wax solidifies into sacred symbols, flames flicker within mechanical devices—a deconstruction of religious rituals and a contemporary reimagining of sanctity. When AI systems simulate human prayer, when algorithm-generated scriptures replace handwritten texts, will faith shed its mystical aura and become quantifiable spiritual data? These candles are not just metaphors for religion and belief but profound meditations on hope and rebirth. They remind us that even under technological upheaval, faith and hope remain indelible lights in the human spirit.

The essence of traditional Chinese landscape painting permeates the exhibition. Landscapes symbolize not only nature but an idealized harmony between humans and the natural world. Yet this harmony fractures under technology’s influence. Philosophy of technology forms another thread. Through the artworks, we probe: In an algorithm-dominated future, how will humanity redefine nature and faith? Can nature retain its autonomy, or will it become a "supernatural" hybrid? Can faith preserve its essence, or will it merge with technology into a new spiritual force? There are no clear answers—these questions lie at the heart of the exhibition’s invitation to reflection.

We invite audiences to step into this technologically transformed natural world, witness the collision of nature and technology, and contemplate the future of humanity and faith. Here, tradition and modernity, nature and technology, reality and surrealism intertwine, weaving a complex tapestry of tomorrow.
