BIOGRAPHY

Canyon Castator’s large-scale paintings are a sarcastic impression of the flaws in society. Referencing figures from the internet, media, politics, and personal experiences, the chaotic narratives in his works are inflated with grotesque characters. They explore our relationship with the digital age and reflect on the excessive number of images and content that we are exposed to daily. Castator’s work emphasises a feeling of absurdity when digital and painting techniques merge onto one canvas.

His work has been shown in numerous solo exhibitions, including Infidel, Postmasters Gallery, New York (2019); No Politics at the Dinner Table, Carl Kostyál, London (2018) and Pissing Match, Postmasters Gallery, New York (2018). Castator’s work has also been shown in group exhibitions, such as Riders of the Red Horse, The Pit, Los Angeles (2020); We Used to Gather, Library Street Collective, Detroit (2020); Drawn Together, The Unit, London (2020); Malmö Sessions, Carl Kostyál, Malmö, Sweden (2019); CON-Figuration, Postmasters Gallery, New York (2017); Emulator, Gallery 151, New York (2016); Go Figure!, Louis B James, New York (2016); Colors, Louis B James, New York (2015); Touched For The Very First Time, Lane Meyer Projects, Denver, CO (2015); RBMA, Project Space, New York (2015); Absent Friends Monya Rowe Gallery, New York (2014); In Rooms, Open Gallery, Portland (2014); Thanks For Coming, Tribeca Grand Hotel, New York (2014); Rundgang, Kunstakademie, Dusseldorf, Germany (2014); Diff’rent Strokes: Small Paintings and Intimate Performances, Louis B. James, New York (2013); Gather & Gentile Motion, Walker Fine Art, Denver (2013) and Gallery Group Show, Gallery Henoch, New York (2013).
