BIOGRAPHY
Andrés Lozano is an artist and illustrator. Since 2017 his practice started focusing more on painting and drawing in which he utilises acrylic paint, oil sticks and spray paint to reflect on themes of isolation, apathy and comfort. In his works, Lozano prioritises the process of creating over the final result and looks at the link between art making and improvisation through semi-biographical paintings. The artworks materialise a world with apathetic and lonely characters surrounded by nature and interiors.
In May 2020 Andrés opened his first solo show Houseplants, La Causa gallery, Madrid. His work has been featured in numerous group exhibitions, including WE CAN ONLY HAVE FUN ON CERTAIN DAYS, Warbling, London (2019) Got it For Cheap, 00 Los Angeles, California (2018); The Solar Punk Festival, Berlin (2018); The Urban Experince, Artual Gallery, Beirut (2018); Camberwell Degree Show, Camberwell University of the Arts, London (2017); Just Us Collective, London (2014) and Miles Km, Bussey Building, London (2012) among others.
Lozano is also the founder of Guts, originally a design publication turned now into an artist-run collective that operates internationally creating street murals, site-specifics and organising various events related to art. During his undergraduate studies, Andrés focused on illustration, building a portfolio with projects for clients such as The New York Times, Google, The Washington Post, Virgin Atlantic and McSweeney’s. He also published several picture books in the UK and the United States.
He holds a degree in Bachelor of Arts in Design from Complutense University of Madrid and a Master of Arts in Illustration and Visual Communication from Camberwell University of the Arts, London. Born in 1992 in Madrid, he currently lives and works in London.
